Ingredients

  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Onions - 2 medium (about 300 grams)
  • Balsamic vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh rosemary - 1 teaspoon, chopped
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Vegan cheese - 100 grams (optional)

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place it in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  4. While the dough is rising, slice the onions thinly. In a pan over medium heat, add a splash of olive oil and the sliced onions. Cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  5. Add balsamic vinegar, chopped rosemary, and black pepper to the onions, and cook for an additional 5 minutes until the vinegar evaporates.
  6. Preheat your oven to 220°C (428°F).
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness (about 0.5 cm).
  8. Transfer the rolled dough to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread the caramelized onion mixture evenly on top. If using, sprinkle vegan cheese over the onions.
  9. Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
