Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 150 grams
  • olive oil - 50 ml
  • dry white wine - 50 ml
  • powdered sugar - 50 grams
  • ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • anise seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • orange zest - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - a pinch
  • water - as needed for dough consistency
  • vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, olive oil, dry white wine, salt, orange zest, anise seeds, and ground cinnamon. Mix until crumbly.
  2. Gradually add water, a tablespoon at a time, mixing until a smooth dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is elastic.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a thin oval shape, about 2-3 mm thick.
  5. Fold each oval in half and twist the ends to create a unique shape, pressing the edges to seal.
  6. In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat for frying.
  7. Once the oil is hot, carefully fry the pestiños in batches until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Remove the pestiños from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. While still warm, dust the fried pestiños with powdered sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
