Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 150 grams
- olive oil - 50 ml
- dry white wine - 50 ml
- powdered sugar - 50 grams
- ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- anise seeds - 1 teaspoon
- orange zest - 1 teaspoon
- salt - a pinch
- water - as needed for dough consistency
- vegetable oil - for frying
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, olive oil, dry white wine, salt, orange zest, anise seeds, and ground cinnamon. Mix until crumbly.
- Gradually add water, a tablespoon at a time, mixing until a smooth dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a thin oval shape, about 2-3 mm thick.
- Fold each oval in half and twist the ends to create a unique shape, pressing the edges to seal.
- In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat for frying.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully fry the pestiños in batches until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the pestiños from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- While still warm, dust the fried pestiños with powdered sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
