Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 150 grams
  • Olive oil - 50 ml
  • Anise seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon powder - 1 teaspoon
  • White wine - 50 ml
  • Salt - a pinch
  • Honey - for drizzling
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting
  • Vegetable oil - for frying - 500 ml

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, anise seeds, cinnamon powder, and a pinch of salt.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil until warm, then add it to the flour mixture along with the white wine.
  3. Mix the ingredients until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  5. Divide the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a thin oval shape, about 2-3 mm thick.
  6. Fold each oval in half, then twist the ends to form a shape resembling an '8'.
  7. In a deep pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until hot. Fry the pestiños in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Remove the fried pestiños and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  9. Drizzle with honey and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
