Ingredients

  • Duck legs - 2
  • Oranges - 2 (juice and zest of 1, slices of 1)
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves (minced)
  • Onion - 1 medium (chopped)
  • Carrot - 1 medium (sliced)
  • Cinnamon stick - 1
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Chicken broth - 250 ml
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Fresh parsley - for garnish

Steps

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the duck legs with salt and pepper, then sear them skin-side down for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Flip the duck legs and add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and sliced carrot. Sauté for another 5 minutes until the vegetables soften.
  3. Pour in the chicken broth, juice and zest of 1 orange, honey, and add the cinnamon stick and bay leaf. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Cover the skillet, reduce heat to low, and let the duck simmer for about 50 minutes until tender and cooked through.
  5. During the last 10 minutes, add the orange slices to the pan to infuse their flavor into the sauce.
  6. Once cooked, remove the duck and keep warm. Increase the heat and let the sauce reduce for 5-10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Serve the duck legs drizzled with the orange sauce and garnish with fresh parsley.
