Ingredients
- Duck legs - 2 pieces (about 400g each)
- Plums - 200g, pitted and halved
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Red wine - 100ml (kosher)
- Chicken broth - 200ml (kosher)
- Honey - 1 tablespoon
- Thyme - 1 teaspoon, dried
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cinnamon - 1/4 teaspoon
Steps
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Season the duck legs with salt and black pepper, then place them skin-side down in the skillet. Brown the duck legs for about 6-8 minutes until the skin is crispy, then flip and brown the other side for another 5 minutes. Remove the duck legs and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Pour in the red wine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Allow it to simmer for about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the chicken broth, honey, thyme, cinnamon, and the halved plums to the skillet. Stir to combine.
- Return the duck legs to the skillet, skin-side up, and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Cover and reduce the heat to low, allowing it to braise for about 1 hour, or until the duck is tender and cooked through.
- Once cooked, remove the duck legs and set aside. Increase the heat to medium-high to reduce the sauce for 5-10 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Serve the duck legs topped with the plum sauce, garnished with additional thyme if desired.
