Ingredients

  • Duck legs - 2 pieces (about 400g each)
  • Plums - 200g, pitted and halved
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Red wine - 100ml (kosher)
  • Chicken broth - 200ml (kosher)
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Thyme - 1 teaspoon, dried
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon - 1/4 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Season the duck legs with salt and black pepper, then place them skin-side down in the skillet. Brown the duck legs for about 6-8 minutes until the skin is crispy, then flip and brown the other side for another 5 minutes. Remove the duck legs and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in the red wine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Allow it to simmer for about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the chicken broth, honey, thyme, cinnamon, and the halved plums to the skillet. Stir to combine.
  5. Return the duck legs to the skillet, skin-side up, and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Cover and reduce the heat to low, allowing it to braise for about 1 hour, or until the duck is tender and cooked through.
  6. Once cooked, remove the duck legs and set aside. Increase the heat to medium-high to reduce the sauce for 5-10 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  7. Serve the duck legs topped with the plum sauce, garnished with additional thyme if desired.
