Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • Unsalted margarine - 100 grams
  • Cold water - 50 ml
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground beef (or chicken) - 250 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Red bell pepper - 1, finely chopped
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the margarine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the cold water slowly, mixing until a dough forms. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the onion and garlic until translucent. Add the red bell pepper and cook for another 3 minutes.
  5. Add the ground meat, paprika, cumin, black pepper, and salt to the skillet. Cook until the meat is browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  6. Remove from heat, stir in chopped parsley, and let the filling cool.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a thin sheet. Cut out two circles, one larger than the other.
  8. Place the larger circle in a greased pie dish, pressing it into the bottom and sides.
  9. Fill with the cooled meat mixture, then cover with the smaller dough circle. Seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
  10. Brush the top with beaten egg for a golden finish.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
