Ingredients

  • Whole wheat pasta - 160 grams
  • Fresh asparagus - 200 grams, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Extra virgin olive oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Red pepper flakes - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the whole wheat pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. In the last 3 minutes of cooking the pasta, add the asparagus pieces to the pot with the pasta.
  3. While the pasta and asparagus are cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant.
  5. Drain the pasta and asparagus, then add them to the skillet with the garlic and olive oil mixture.
  6. Toss everything together over medium heat, adding lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste.
  7. Remove from heat and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.
