- Pasta (spaghetti or penne) - 150 grams
- Broccoli florets - 200 grams
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Extra virgin olive oil - 3 tablespoons
- Red pepper flakes - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated (optional)
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)
Steps
- Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and add the pasta. Cook according to package instructions until al dente.
- In the last 3 minutes of pasta cooking, add the broccoli florets to the pot with the pasta.
- While the pasta and broccoli are cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, sautéing for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Once the pasta and broccoli are cooked, drain them and reserve a small cup of pasta water.
- Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the skillet with garlic oil. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water if necessary to create a light sauce.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and lemon juice to taste. Mix well.
- Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and garnished with chopped parsley.
