Ingredients

  • Pasta (spaghetti or penne) - 150 grams
  • Broccoli florets - 200 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Extra virgin olive oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Red pepper flakes - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Parmesan cheese - 30 grams, grated (optional)
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and add the pasta. Cook according to package instructions until al dente.
  2. In the last 3 minutes of pasta cooking, add the broccoli florets to the pot with the pasta.
  3. While the pasta and broccoli are cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, sautéing for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Once the pasta and broccoli are cooked, drain them and reserve a small cup of pasta water.
  5. Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the skillet with garlic oil. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water if necessary to create a light sauce.
  6. Season with salt, black pepper, and lemon juice to taste. Mix well.
  7. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and garnished with chopped parsley.
