Ingredients

  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 medium, chopped
  • Red bell pepper - 1, diced
  • Tomatoes - 2 medium, chopped
  • Fish stock - 500 ml
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Prawns - 150 grams, peeled and deveined
  • Mussels - 150 grams, cleaned
  • Calamari - 100 grams, sliced
  • White fish fillet (hake or cod) - 150 grams, cubed
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped, for garnish
  • Lemon - 1, cut into wedges for serving

Steps

  1. In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing until translucent.
  2. Add the diced red bell pepper and continue to cook for another 3-4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, paprika, bay leaf, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, allowing the tomatoes to break down.
  4. Pour in the fish stock and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Add the prawns, mussels, calamari, and cubed white fish to the pot. Cover and cook for another 5-7 minutes, or until the mussels open and the seafood is cooked through.
  6. Remove the pot from heat and discard any unopened mussels. Adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.
  7. Serve the Mariscada Gallega hot, garnished with fresh parsley and lemon wedges on the side.
