Ingredients

  • Macaroni - 200 grams
  • Butter - 30 grams
  • All-purpose flour - 30 grams
  • Milk - 500 ml
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Grated cheese (Halal) - 100 grams
  • Breadcrumbs - 30 grams
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Cook the macaroni in a pot of boiling salted water according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to create a roux.
  3. Gradually add the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Season the béchamel sauce with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Stir in half of the grated cheese until melted and combined.
  5. Combine the cooked macaroni with the béchamel sauce in a mixing bowl, ensuring the pasta is well-coated.
  6. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  7. Transfer the macaroni mixture to a baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining cheese and breadcrumbs evenly on top.
  8. Drizzle with olive oil and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, and serve warm.
