Ingredients
- Milk - 500 ml
- Granulated sugar - 100 g
- Cornstarch - 50 g
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Lemon zest - 1 tsp
- Vanilla extract - 1 tsp
- All-purpose flour - 50 g
- Eggs - 2
- Breadcrumbs - 100 g
- Vegetable oil - for frying
- Powdered sugar - for dusting
Steps
- In a saucepan, combine the milk, granulated sugar, cinnamon stick, lemon zest, and vanilla extract. Heat on medium until it is warm but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with a little cold milk to create a slurry. Slowly add this mixture to the warm milk while stirring continuously until it thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Once thickened, pour the mixture into a greased shallow dish and spread evenly. Allow it to cool completely for about 30 minutes.
- Once cooled, cut the set milk mixture into squares or rectangles.
- Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs.
- Coat each piece of milk in flour, dip it in the beaten eggs, and then coat with breadcrumbs.
- In a frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Fry the coated pieces until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
