  • Bread crumbs - 50 grams
  • Red onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Smoked paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon (for frying)
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce - 2 leaves
  • Tomato - 1, sliced
  • Avocado - 1/2, sliced
  • Mayonnaise or vegan mayo - to taste

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked lentils with a fork until slightly smooth but still chunky.
  2. Add the bread crumbs, chopped red onion, minced garlic, cumin, smoked paprika, chopped parsley, egg, salt, and black pepper to the bowl. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the lentil mixture into two patties, ensuring they hold together well.
  4. Heat olive oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.
  5. While the patties are cooking, prepare the burger buns with lettuce, tomato slices, avocado, and mayonnaise.
  6. Once cooked, place the lentil patties on the prepared buns, top with any additional toppings you desire, and serve immediately.
