  • Red onion - 50 g (1/4 cup, finely chopped)
  • Garlic - 2 cloves (minced)
  • Cumin - 1 tsp
  • Paprika - 1 tsp
  • Chili powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - 1/2 tsp
  • Black pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • Breadcrumbs - 50 g (1/2 cup)
  • Egg - 1 (beaten)
  • Olive oil - 2 tbsp
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce - 2 leaves
  • Tomato - 1 (sliced)
  • Avocado - 1 (sliced)
  • Salsa - to taste

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mash the cooked black beans with a fork until slightly chunky.
  2. Add the chopped red onion, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, chili powder, salt, black pepper, breadcrumbs, and beaten egg to the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into two patties, about 1.5 cm thick.
  4. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until golden brown and heated through.
  5. While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns in the remaining olive oil until lightly browned.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on each bun, followed by the bean patty, sliced tomato, sliced avocado, and a dollop of salsa.
