- Granulated sugar - 100 grams
- Whole milk - 250 ml
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 50 ml (for caramel)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a saucepan, combine 50 ml of water and 50 grams of sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and turns a golden-brown caramel color.
- Quickly pour the caramel into two small ramekins, tilting them to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, remaining 50 grams of sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture over the set caramel in the ramekins.
- Place the ramekins in a baking dish and fill the dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the flan is set and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
- To serve, run a knife around the edge of the flan, invert onto a plate, and enjoy!
