Ingredients

  • Eggs - 2 large
  • Granulated sugar - 100 grams
  • Whole milk - 250 ml
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 50 ml (for caramel)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a saucepan, combine 50 ml of water and 50 grams of sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and turns a golden-brown caramel color.
  3. Quickly pour the caramel into two small ramekins, tilting them to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, remaining 50 grams of sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the set caramel in the ramekins.
  6. Place the ramekins in a baking dish and fill the dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the flan is set and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  9. To serve, run a knife around the edge of the flan, invert onto a plate, and enjoy!
