Ingredients

  • Whole milk - 200 ml
  • Sweetened condensed milk - 100 g
  • Eggs - 2 large
  • Strong brewed coffee - 60 ml
  • Granulated sugar - 50 g (for caramel)
  • Vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • Salt - a pinch

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a small saucepan, melt the granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns a golden brown. Quickly pour the caramel into two ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, brewed coffee, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the coffee mixture over the cooled caramel in the ramekins.
  5. Place the ramekins in a baking dish and add hot water to the dish until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins, creating a water bath.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the flans are set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  7. Remove the ramekins from the water bath and let them cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  8. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan and invert onto a plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the top.
