Ingredients

  • Gluten-free all-purpose flour - 100 grams
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Butter - 25 grams
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon powder - 1 teaspoon (for coating)
  • Sugar - 2 tablespoons (for coating)
  • Vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. In a small saucepan, combine water, butter, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Heat over medium heat until the butter melts and the mixture comes to a boil.
  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and add the gluten-free flour and baking powder. Stir quickly with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a dough.
  3. Allow the dough to cool for a few minutes, then add the egg and mix until fully incorporated and smooth.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat, enough to submerge the churros (about 5 cm deep).
  5. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle.
  6. Once the oil is hot, carefully pipe strips of dough into the oil, cutting them to your desired length with scissors.
  7. Fry the churros until they are golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. In a shallow dish, mix 2 tablespoons of sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Roll the warm churros in the cinnamon sugar until fully coated.
  9. Serve immediately, optionally with a side of melted chocolate for dipping.
