Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 120 grams
- water - 240 milliliters
- coconut oil - 2 tablespoons
- sugar - 2 tablespoons
- baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- powdered sugar - for dusting
- dark chocolate (vegan) - 100 grams
- plant-based milk - 100 milliliters
Steps
- In a saucepan, combine water, coconut oil, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium until boiling.
- Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in the flour, baking powder, and vanilla extract until a dough forms.
- Let the dough cool for about 10 minutes. Preheat your oil for frying in a deep pan to 180°C (350°F).
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle.
- Pipe long strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting them to your desired length with scissors.
- Fry the churros until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- In a small saucepan, melt the dark chocolate with plant-based milk over low heat, stirring until smooth.
- Mix cinnamon and powdered sugar in a bowl, then toss the churros in this mixture while they are still warm.
- Serve the churros warm with the melted chocolate for dipping.
