Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 120 grams
  • water - 240 milliliters
  • coconut oil - 2 tablespoons
  • sugar - 2 tablespoons
  • baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • powdered sugar - for dusting
  • dark chocolate (vegan) - 100 grams
  • plant-based milk - 100 milliliters

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, coconut oil, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium until boiling.
  2. Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in the flour, baking powder, and vanilla extract until a dough forms.
  3. Let the dough cool for about 10 minutes. Preheat your oil for frying in a deep pan to 180°C (350°F).
  4. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped nozzle.
  5. Pipe long strips of dough into the hot oil, cutting them to your desired length with scissors.
  6. Fry the churros until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. In a small saucepan, melt the dark chocolate with plant-based milk over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  8. Mix cinnamon and powdered sugar in a bowl, then toss the churros in this mixture while they are still warm.
  9. Serve the churros warm with the melted chocolate for dipping.
