Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 125 grams
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Coconut oil - 2 tablespoons (melted)
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar (for coating) - 2 tablespoons
  • Dark chocolate (vegan) - 100 grams
  • Almond milk - 100 ml

Steps

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, coconut oil, and sugar. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  2. Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt until a dough forms.
  3. Let the dough cool for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  4. In a shallow pan, mix the sugar and cinnamon for coating the churros.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
  6. Pipe the dough into the hot oil in 10cm lengths, cutting with scissors. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  7. Remove churros from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. While still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. For the chocolate sauce, melt the dark chocolate in a saucepan over low heat, then stir in the almond milk until smooth and creamy.
  9. Serve the churros warm with the chocolate sauce for dipping.
