  • Balsamic vinegar - 1 tablespoon (15ml)

  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon (1g)
  • Thyme - 1 teaspoon (1g)

Steps

  1. Peel and thinly slice the onions.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the sliced onions to the skillet and sprinkle with salt and black pepper.
  4. Cook the onions for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften.
  5. Add the brown sugar and balsamic vinegar to the skillet, stirring well to combine.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and continue cooking for an additional 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently, until the onions are deeply caramelized and have a rich, golden-brown color.
  7. Stir in the thyme during the last 5 minutes of cooking for added flavor.
