Ingredients

  • Canelones pasta - 8 pieces
  • Ground halal beef - 250 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Carrot - 1 medium, grated
  • Tomato puree - 200 grams
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Italian seasoning - 1 teaspoon
  • Grated cheese (mozzarella or cheddar) - 100 grams
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the grated carrot and cook for another 2-3 minutes until tender.
  4. Add the ground halal beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until it's browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the tomato puree, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning, then let it simmer for 5 minutes until the mixture is thickened. Remove from heat.
  6. Cook the canelones in boiling water for 5-7 minutes until slightly softened but not fully cooked. Drain and let cool slightly.
  7. Stuff each canelón with the meat mixture, placing them in a baking dish as you go.
  8. Top the stuffed canelones with any leftover meat mixture and sprinkle grated cheese evenly over the top.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden.
  10. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
