Ingredients
- Sorghum - 100 grams
- Chickpeas - 100 grams, canned or cooked
- Red onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Whole grain burger buns - 2
- Lettuce leaves - 2
- Tomato - 1, sliced
- Vegan mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons
Steps
- Rinse the sorghum under cold water and cook it in a pot with 300 ml of water for about 20-25 minutes, or until tender. Drain and set aside to cool.
- In a mixing bowl, mash the chickpeas with a fork, leaving some chunks for texture.
- Add the cooked sorghum, chopped red onion, minced garlic, ground cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley to the bowl. Mix well until combined.
- Form the mixture into two burger patties. If the mixture is too wet, add a small amount of flour to help bind it.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.
- To assemble, place each patty on a burger bun, add a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, and a tablespoon of vegan mayonnaise. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
