Ingredients

  • Black beans - 400 grams (cooked and drained)
  • Breadcrumbs - 50 grams
  • Red onion - 1 small (finely chopped)
  • Garlic - 2 cloves (minced)
  • Cilantro - 20 grams (chopped)
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Egg - 1 (beaten)
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons (for frying)
  • Burger buns - 2 (whole wheat or regular)
  • Avocado - 1 (sliced, for topping)
  • Tomato - 1 (sliced, for topping)
  • Lettuce - 2 leaves (for serving)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the black beans with a fork until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.
  2. Add the breadcrumbs, chopped red onion, minced garlic, cilantro, cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and beaten egg to the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty.
  4. In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the burger patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and heated through.
  5. While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns lightly on a separate pan or in a toaster.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on each bun, topped with avocado slices, tomato slices, and lettuce leaves.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite condiments or side dishes.
