Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 100 grams
  • Cornstarch - 30 grams
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Almond milk - 200 ml
  • Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon zest - 1 teaspoon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Oil for frying - as needed
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the almond milk, vanilla extract, and lemon zest.
  3. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until you achieve a smooth batter.
  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat until hot (about 180°C or 350°F).
  5. Using a spoon, carefully drop small amounts of the batter into the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding.
  6. Fry the buñuelos for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and puffed up.
  7. Remove the buñuelos from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
