- Black pepper - to taste
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cornmeal, water, and salt. Mix until a dough forms and let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add the olive oil.
- Once the skillet is hot, place the arepas in the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they develop a golden-brown crust.
