Ingredients

  • Basmati rice - 150 grams
  • Water - 300 milliliters
  • Zaatar spice blend - 2 tablespoons
  • Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch, then drain.
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the zaatar spice blend, salt, and black pepper, cooking for another minute to release the spices' aroma.
  5. Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan, stirring to coat the rice with the oil and spices.
  6. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 15 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
  7. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork.
  8. Stir in the chopped parsley and lemon juice before serving.
