Ingredients
- Basmati rice - 150 grams
- Water - 300 milliliters
- Zaatar spice blend - 2 tablespoons
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch, then drain.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the zaatar spice blend, salt, and black pepper, cooking for another minute to release the spices' aroma.
- Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan, stirring to coat the rice with the oil and spices.
- Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 15 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork.
- Stir in the chopped parsley and lemon juice before serving.
