Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 150 grams
  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Greek yogurt - 100 grams
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Water - 50 ml
  • Olive oil - for frying
  • Honey - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (optional)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, egg, and water until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  5. Heat olive oil in a deep pan over medium heat for frying.
  6. With wet hands, take small portions of dough and shape them into rings (about 5 cm in diameter).
  7. Carefully place the dough rings into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  8. Remove the sfenj from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Drizzle honey over the warm sfenj and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  10. Serve immediately while warm for the best taste.
