Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Water - 180 ml
  • Active dry yeast - 7 grams
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Vegetable oil - for frying
  • Honey - 100 grams
  • Sesame seeds - for garnish (optional)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the all-purpose flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  5. With wet hands, take a small portion of the dough and shape it into a ring, making a hole in the center. Carefully place it in the hot oil.
  6. Fry the doughnut rings for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. In a small saucepan, gently heat the honey until it is runny. Drizzle the warm honey over the fried sfenj.
  8. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds on top for added texture and flavor. Serve warm.
