- Active dry yeast - 7 grams
- Sugar - 30 grams
- Salt - 5 grams
- Vegetable oil - for frying
- Honey - 100 grams
- Sesame seeds - for garnish (optional)
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
- Add the all-purpose flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- With wet hands, take a small portion of the dough and shape it into a ring, making a hole in the center. Carefully place it in the hot oil.
- Fry the doughnut rings for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In a small saucepan, gently heat the honey until it is runny. Drizzle the warm honey over the fried sfenj.
