Ingredients

  • all-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • warm water - 100 milliliters
  • olive oil - 30 milliliters
  • active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • salt - 5 grams
  • honey - 10 grams

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, honey, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center.
  3. Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the well of the flour mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
  4. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F).
  7. After the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf.
  8. Place the shaped loaf onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it rest for another 10 minutes.
  9. Using a sharp knife, make a few shallow slashes on the top of the loaf for decoration.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.
