Ingredients

  • White fish fillets (such as cod or halibut) - 300 grams
  • Olive oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground coriander - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Honey - 2 tablespoons
  • Dried apricots - 50 grams, chopped
  • Almonds - 30 grams, toasted and roughly chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish
  • Lemon - 1, cut into wedges

Steps

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground cumin, ground coriander, paprika, and cinnamon to the skillet. Stir well to combine and cook for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices.
  4. Pour in 150ml of water along with the honey, chopped dried apricots, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Carefully add the fish fillets to the skillet, ensuring they are submerged in the sauce. Cover and cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  6. Remove the lid and gently stir in the toasted almonds. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
  7. Serve the Mrouzia de Poisson hot, garnished with fresh cilantro and lemon wedges on the side.
