Ingredients
- White fish fillets (such as cod or halibut) - 300 grams
- Olive oil - 3 tablespoons
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Ground coriander - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Honey - 2 tablespoons
- Dried apricots - 50 grams, chopped
- Almonds - 30 grams, toasted and roughly chopped
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Fresh cilantro - for garnish
- Lemon - 1, cut into wedges
Steps
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground cumin, ground coriander, paprika, and cinnamon to the skillet. Stir well to combine and cook for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices.
- Pour in 150ml of water along with the honey, chopped dried apricots, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Carefully add the fish fillets to the skillet, ensuring they are submerged in the sauce. Cover and cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Remove the lid and gently stir in the toasted almonds. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Serve the Mrouzia de Poisson hot, garnished with fresh cilantro and lemon wedges on the side.
