Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 200 grams
  • Warm water - 120 ml
  • Active dry yeast - 7 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Olive oil - 10 ml
  • Sugar - 5 grams

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius (428 degrees Fahrenheit).
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf, about 2 cm thick. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Using a sharp knife, make a few shallow cuts on top of the loaf to allow it to expand while baking.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm with olive oil, jam, or your favorite vegan spread.
