Ingredients
- Dried carob pods - 100 grams
- Water - 300 ml
- Almonds - 30 grams
- Cinnamon powder - 1 teaspoon
- Honey or maple syrup - 2 tablespoons (optional, for sweetness)
- Salt - a pinch
Steps
- Rinse the dried carob pods under cold water to remove any dust.
- In a medium saucepan, add the rinsed carob pods and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the carob pods are soft.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly before straining the liquid into a bowl, discarding the pods.
- Add the cinnamon powder, honey or maple syrup (if using), and a pinch of salt to the strained liquid. Stir well until combined.
- Chop the almonds roughly and add them to the mixture, stirring to incorporate.
- Pour the mixture into a shallow dish and let it cool completely to set. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Once set, cut into squares or bars and enjoy your Kharoub snack.
