Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 whole wheat burger buns
  • 1 cup mixed greens (lettuce, arugula, etc.)
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 cucumber, sliced
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, paprika, cinnamon, cayenne pepper (if using), parsley, cilantro, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 70°C (160°F).
  4. While the burgers are cooking, prepare the yogurt sauce by mixing the Greek yogurt, lemon juice, and olive oil in a small bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Toast the whole wheat burger buns lightly on the grill or skillet.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on a bun, adding a layer of mixed greens, tomato slices, cucumber slices, and a generous dollop of the yogurt sauce.
