Ingredients

  • Ground beef (or lamb) - 250 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 2 tablespoons
  • Pita bread - 2 pieces, for serving

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, half of the chopped onion, garlic, parsley, cumin, paprika, cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into small oval-shaped patties, about 5 cm long.
  3. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the remaining chopped onion and sauté until translucent and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Push the onions to the side of the skillet and add the kefta patties. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
  5. Add 2 tablespoons of water to the skillet, cover, and let cook for an additional 2 minutes to keep the patties moist.
  6. Remove from heat and serve the kefta with the caramelized onions on top, accompanied by pita bread.
