Ingredients

  • Chickpeas (cooked) - 200 grams
  • Onion (finely chopped) - 1 small (about 70 grams)
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Fresh parsley (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Cilantro (chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Flour (all-purpose) - 3 tablespoons
  • Water - 2 tablespoons
  • Olive oil (for frying) - 120 ml

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked chickpeas using a fork or a potato masher until slightly chunky.
  2. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, paprika, baking powder, salt, and black pepper to the mashed chickpeas. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour and water to the mixture, stirring until a thick batter forms. If necessary, adjust the consistency with more flour or water.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, use a spoon to drop small portions of the batter into the pan, flattening them slightly to form fritters.
  5. Fry the fritters for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them and drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve warm with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as tahini or yogurt sauce.
