Ingredients
- Basmati rice - 150 grams
- Water - 300 milliliters
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Lemon zest - 1 teaspoon
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat and add the cumin seeds. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan, cooking until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Stir in the rinsed rice, salt, and black pepper, toasting for 2 minutes while stirring frequently.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid.
- Simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and stir in the chopped cilantro and lemon zest before serving.
