Ingredients
- Whole wheat flour - 100 grams
- Sesame seeds - 30 grams
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Ground ginger - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Honey - 3 tablespoons
- Water - 50 ml
- Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Powdered sugar (for dusting) - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, sesame seeds, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the olive oil and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add water to form a smooth, elastic dough. Knead for about 5 minutes and then let it rest for 10 minutes.
- Roll out the dough into a thin rectangle (about 3 mm thick) on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut the dough into strips (approximately 5 cm wide) and shape each strip into a twisted figure-eight or any desired shape.
- Heat a small amount of olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the chebakia until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove from the pan and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- In a separate saucepan, gently warm the honey until it's runny. Dip each chebakia into the honey, ensuring it is well coated.
- Finally, dust with powdered sugar and let cool before serving.
