Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour - 100 grams
  • Sesame seeds - 30 grams
  • Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground ginger - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Honey - 3 tablespoons
  • Water - 50 ml
  • Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting) - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, sesame seeds, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the olive oil and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add water to form a smooth, elastic dough. Knead for about 5 minutes and then let it rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Roll out the dough into a thin rectangle (about 3 mm thick) on a lightly floured surface.
  5. Cut the dough into strips (approximately 5 cm wide) and shape each strip into a twisted figure-eight or any desired shape.
  6. Heat a small amount of olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the chebakia until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  7. Remove from the pan and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  8. In a separate saucepan, gently warm the honey until it's runny. Dip each chebakia into the honey, ensuring it is well coated.
  9. Finally, dust with powdered sugar and let cool before serving.
