Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 150 grams
- Olive oil - 60 ml
- Water - 60 ml
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red onions - 2 medium (about 250 grams)
- Fresh figs - 100 grams (sliced)
- Balsamic vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
- Fresh thyme - 1 teaspoon (chopped)
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the olive oil and water, mixing until a dough forms. Knead briefly until smooth, then wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
- While the dough is chilling, slice the red onions. Heat a large skillet over medium heat, add a tablespoon of olive oil, and sauté the onions until they become caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
- Add the balsamic vinegar, maple syrup, chopped thyme, and black pepper to the onions, cooking for an additional 5 minutes until the mixture is well combined and slightly thickened. Remove from heat.
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to fit a small tart pan (approximately 20 cm in diameter). Press the dough into the pan and trim any excess.
- Spread the caramelized onion mixture evenly over the crust, then arrange the sliced figs on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before slicing.
