Ingredients

  • Phyllo dough - 200 grams
  • Milk - 250 ml
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Cornstarch - 30 grams
  • Butter - 30 grams (melted)
  • Rose water - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground almonds - 50 grams
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting

Steps

  1. In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, and cornstarch. Stir over medium heat until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and add the melted butter, rose water, ground cinnamon, and ground almonds. Mix well and let cool.
  3. Preheat the oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Take a sheet of phyllo dough and brush it lightly with melted butter. Fold it in half lengthwise.
  5. Place a tablespoon of the cooled filling at one end of the dough. Fold the sides over the filling and roll up tightly to form a cigar shape. Seal the edges with a little melted butter.
  6. Repeat the process for the remaining phyllo sheets and filling.
  7. Fry the briouats in the hot oil until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving warm.
