Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 200g
- Active dry yeast - 7g
- Granulated sugar - 30g
- Salt - 3g
- Milk - 100ml (warm)
- Egg - 1 large
- Unsalted butter - 50g (melted)
- Almond extract - 1 tsp
- Sliced almonds - 30g (for topping)
- Powdered sugar - for dusting (optional)
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture, melted butter, almond extract, and the egg.
- Mix the ingredients until a dough forms, then knead for about 10 minutes on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and shape it into a round loaf. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover the loaf again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). After the second rise, brush the top of the loaf with melted butter and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Allow it to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar (if desired) and serving.
