Ingredients

  • Active dry yeast - 7 grams
  • Sugar - 50 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Milk - 120 ml (warm)
  • Butter - 75 grams (softened)
  • Eggs - 2 large
  • Almond extract - 1 teaspoon
  • Sliced almonds - 50 grams
  • Powdered sugar - for dusting

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm milk along with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, softened butter, eggs, and almond extract.
  3. Mix the ingredients together until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf. Place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  6. Sprinkle the sliced almonds over the top of the loaf, pressing them lightly into the dough. Allow it to rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
