Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 250 grams
- Active dry yeast - 7 grams
- Sugar - 50 grams
- Salt - 5 grams
- Milk - 120 ml (warm)
- Butter - 75 grams (softened)
- Eggs - 2 large
- Almond extract - 1 teaspoon
- Sliced almonds - 50 grams
- Powdered sugar - for dusting
Steps
- In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm milk along with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, softened butter, eggs, and almond extract.
- Mix the ingredients together until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Once the dough has risen, punch it down and shape it into a round loaf. Place it on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle the sliced almonds over the top of the loaf, pressing them lightly into the dough. Allow it to rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
