Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Butter - 100 grams (melted)
  • Cold water - 100 ml
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground beef - 200 grams
  • Onion - 1 medium (finely chopped)
  • Garlic - 2 cloves (minced)
  • Carrot - 1 medium (grated)
  • Cilantro - 2 tablespoons (chopped)
  • Cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Egg - 1 (beaten, for egg wash)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add melted butter and cold water, mixing until a dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes until smooth, then wrap in plastic wrap and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent, about 3-5 minutes. Add ground beef, grated carrot, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes. Stir in chopped cilantro and remove from heat.
  3. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  4. Divide the rested dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a thin circle on a floured surface. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each circle.
  5. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges by pressing with a fork.
  6. Place the filled pastries on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
