Ingredients

  • Dried fava beans - 200 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Cilantro - 30 grams, chopped
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 500 ml

Steps

  1. Soak the dried fava beans in water for at least 8 hours or overnight to soften them.
  2. After soaking, drain the beans and rinse them under cold water.
  3. In a pot, combine the fava beans and 500 ml of fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes until tender. Drain and let cool.
  4. In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked fava beans with a fork until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
  5. Add minced garlic, chopped cilantro, cumin powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, olive oil, and lemon juice to the mashed beans. Mix well until combined.
  6. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  7. Form the bean mixture into small patties or balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
