Ingredients
- Dried fava beans - 200 grams
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Cilantro - 30 grams, chopped
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Water - 500 ml
Steps
- Soak the dried fava beans in water for at least 8 hours or overnight to soften them.
- After soaking, drain the beans and rinse them under cold water.
- In a pot, combine the fava beans and 500 ml of fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes until tender. Drain and let cool.
- In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked fava beans with a fork until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
- Add minced garlic, chopped cilantro, cumin powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, olive oil, and lemon juice to the mashed beans. Mix well until combined.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Form the bean mixture into small patties or balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
