- Dried fava beans - 200 grams
- Water - 500 ml
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 4 tablespoons
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon
- Fresh parsley - for garnish
Steps
- Soak the dried fava beans in water overnight or for at least 8 hours.
- Drain and rinse the fava beans, then place them in a pot with 500 ml of fresh water.
- Add minced garlic, cumin, and salt to the pot, then bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-40 minutes, or until the beans are soft.
- Once cooked, drain any excess water and transfer the beans to a blender or food processor.
- Blend the beans until smooth, adding a little water if necessary to achieve a creamy consistency.
- Stir in lemon juice and adjust seasoning to taste.
- Divide the bissara into two bowls, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle paprika on top.
- Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve warm.
