Steps
- Rinse the split peas under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a large pot, combine the rinsed split peas and water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and add the minced garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 30 minutes or until the split peas are tender.
- Remove from heat and use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth. If it's too thick, add a bit more water until the desired consistency is reached.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
