  • Prunes - 100 grams, pitted and chopped

  • Ground cumin - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground ginger - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Beef broth - 250 ml
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Almonds - 30 grams, toasted and chopped
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish

Steps

  1. Heat olive oil in a tagine or heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the beef cubes to the pot, browning them on all sides for about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle in cumin, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, salt, and black pepper; stir well to coat the beef.
  6. Pour in the beef broth and honey, bringing the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  7. Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low, allowing it to cook for 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. After 60 minutes, add the chopped prunes to the pot and continue cooking for another 15-20 minutes until the beef is tender.
  9. Once done, sprinkle the toasted almonds over the tagine and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
