Ingredients
- Phyllo pastry - 4 sheets
- Chicken breast - 200 grams, cooked and shredded
- Almonds - 30 grams, chopped
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Ground ginger - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
- Nutmeg - 1/4 teaspoon
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
- Powdered sugar - for dusting
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the shredded chicken, chopped cilantro, parsley, chopped almonds, cinnamon, ginger, cumin, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Lay one sheet of phyllo pastry on a baking sheet and brush lightly with olive oil. Layer another sheet on top and brush again with oil. Repeat for a total of 2 sheets.
- Spread the chicken mixture evenly over the phyllo layers, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Fold the edges of the phyllo over the filling to create a rectangle, sealing the edges with the beaten egg.
- Place another two sheets of phyllo on top, brushing each with olive oil, then fold over the edges again to seal.
- Brush the top layer with the remaining beaten egg and cut into slices.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm.
