Ingredients
- Masa harina - 1 cup (120g)
- Warm water - 3/4 cup (180ml)
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Oil (for cooking) - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the masa harina and salt.
- Gradually add warm water to the masa harina, mixing with your hands until a smooth dough forms. The dough should be pliable and not sticky.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal balls (about 30g each). Cover with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.
- Preheat a non-stick skillet or comal over medium-high heat.
- Take one ball of dough and flatten it between two pieces of parchment paper or plastic wrap using a tortilla press or a rolling pin, until it's about 1/8 inch thick.
- Carefully remove the flattened tortilla and place it on the hot skillet. Cook for about 30 seconds, or until small bubbles form and the edges start to lift.
- Flip the tortilla and cook for another 30 seconds on the other side. Remove from the skillet and keep warm in a clean kitchen towel. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
- Serve the tortillas warm with your choice of toppings such as avocado, salsa, vegan cheese, or beans.
