Ingredients

  • Whey protein powder - 30 grams
  • Almond milk - 100 ml
  • Baking powder - 5 grams
  • Coconut oil - 15 grams
  • Brown sugar - 20 grams
  • Mixed fruits (mango, banana, and berries) - 150 grams
  • Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Corn husks - 6 pieces

Steps

  1. Soak the corn husks in warm water for about 30 minutes to soften them.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the corn masa, whey protein powder, baking powder, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the almond milk and melted coconut oil to the masa mixture, stirring until a smooth dough forms.
  4. Chop the mixed fruits into small pieces and set aside.
  5. Take one corn husk and spread about 2 tablespoons of the masa dough in the center, forming a rectangle.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the chopped fruits on top of the masa, then fold the sides of the husk over to enclose the filling and secure it with a tie or string.
  7. Repeat this process for the remaining husks and dough until all are filled.
  8. In a steamer, place the tamales upright and steam for about 30-35 minutes, or until the masa pulls away easily from the husk.
  9. Once cooked, let the tamales cool for a few minutes before serving.
