Ingredients
- Masa harina - 150 grams
- Water - 150 ml
- Coconut oil - 30 grams (melted)
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- Agave syrup - 2 tablespoons
- Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Mixed fresh fruits (such as mango, pineapple, and strawberries) - 200 grams (chopped)
- Corn husks - 6 to 8 (soaked in warm water)
Steps
- Soak the corn husks in warm water for about 30 minutes to soften them.
- In a mixing bowl, combine masa harina, baking powder, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
- In another bowl, mix the melted coconut oil, agave syrup, and water. Gradually add this mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
- Take a soaked corn husk and spread a tablespoon of masa dough onto the center, leaving space on the sides.
- Place a tablespoon of the mixed chopped fruits on top of the masa.
- Fold the sides of the husk over the masa and fruit, then fold the bottom up to secure the filling.
- Repeat the process for the remaining husks and filling.
- Place the tamales upright in a steamer pot. Fill the bottom with water and steam the tamales for about 30-40 minutes, or until the masa separates easily from the husk.
- Remove the tamales from the steamer and let them cool slightly before serving.
