Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 200 grams
- Warm water - 120 ml
- Active dry yeast - 5 grams
- Sugar - 5 grams
- Salt - 5 grams
- Olive oil - 15 ml
- Pork shoulder - 250 grams (Halal certified)
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Onion powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Lime juice - 15 ml
- Mozzarella cheese - 100 grams, shredded
- Red onion - 50 grams, thinly sliced
- Cilantro - 10 grams, chopped
- Crema or sour cream - for drizzling
Steps
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 30 minutes.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the carnitas. In a pot, add pork shoulder, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and lime juice. Cover with water and simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes until tender.
- Once the pork is cooked, shred it using two forks and set it aside.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F).
- Divide the risen dough into two equal portions and roll each out into a 25 cm (10 inch) round pizza base.
- Place the rolled out bases on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
- Spread a layer of shredded carnitas over each pizza base, then top with shredded mozzarella and sliced red onion.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped cilantro and drizzle with crema before serving.
